Converting to Muslim by An American Lady
Convert to Muslim is not an easy task in a Christian majority society like America. Although many view that convert to Islam or any other religion from any other is much easier in United States as compare to other places in the world because America is a secular society which gives a person freedom to choose from any of religion at any time.
However, it is true in an extent, but not always true because majority of American nationals are Christians (Most of them are Catholic) and most of them are biased with Islam and Muslims. In that kind of society, converting to become Muslim from Christianity is not tolerated at all and you have to face strong criticism, changing behavior and rood relations.
In that kind of society, which teaches its generation that Islam is a stone aged religion where women are oppressed the most; can you believe women are the most of them accepting Islam as religion of truth and converting from Christian/Secular/Atheist to Muslim? It is true. Every year round about hundred thousand Americans convert to Islam and 4 out of 1 are women embracing Islam, that means women are receptive towards Islam four times more than men in the society which portray Islam as cruel towards women.
Here we’re presenting word by word interview of an American women who convert to Islam where she was tough that Islam is cruel towards women. How she embraces Islam after her brain was made against Islam? Read the following passage.
My conversion began as the result of a challenge by a Muslim to read the Quran in order for us to have a debate on the position of. I held the stereo typical view of Muslim women as being oppressed and in a bad position relative to their Christian counterparts. I was nominally Christian, raised in a Catholic environment, but was not practicing the religion and really only bothered to label myself a Christian in order not to appear too rebellious in front of my extended family (my family was also really only Christian in name, not "reality").
The reading of the Quran and of Hadith of the Prophet is what captured me. I went through a very odd experience whereby for the whole week it took me to read the Quran I couldn't sleep and seemed to toss and turn all night in a feverish sweat. I had strange and vivid dreams about religious topics, and when I would get up all I wanted to do was continue reading the Quran. I didn't even study for my final exams which were happening at the same time!â€
