“Say, I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine - for indeed, it is impure - or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than Allah . Now here is the definition of gelatin which will help you to understand the reality of gelatin.
Gelatin is colorless brittle substance prepared by boiling the bones, hooks, collagen and other tissues of animals.
The Halal and Haram of Gelatin depends on the source from which it is extracted, if the things used to prepare Gelatin belongs to Halal animals like Cow, goat, Buffalo camel etc then the gelatin is halal to eat. But if the raw material used to prepare gelatin is from haram animal like Pig, then it is haram for all Muslims.
One more complication in this matter is the method of slaughtering, if the animal is halal but is not slaughtered according to Islamic dietary laws then the gelatin obtained from it is also haram to eat, and makes no difference whether you eat a pig gelatin or a cow gelatin.
